Brief History of Community Murals

Brief History of the Modern Mural Movement

Mural historian Timothy W. Drescher, PhD gives a brief history of the modern mural movement in the United States with comments on the mural movement in other countries as well.  This 10 minute video is appropriate for middle, high school and university students studying arts and/or human rights.   Dr. Drescher has documented murals since the 60’s and is a founder of a mural restoration organization.

Beyond The Screen

Beyond The Screen Mural Project in Rifle, Colorado

Twelve students from four high schools came together in the summer of 2016 to create a large mural in Rifle, CO. They chose to illustrate the effect technology has on their lives. They surrounded this imagery with the beautiful scenery of their region of the Rocky Mountains. The project was facilitated by YouthZone in collabroation with the Bookcliffs Arts Project.
