Visions of Hope in Harper, Liberia
By Colors of Connection
Colors of Connection founders Christina Mallie and Laurie Reyman did some research on how people can often be re-traumatized living in a place that has been ravaged by war or violence. They set out, with some local high school students, to transform some of the burned out, damaged and destroyed buildings in Harper, Liberia by painting murals on the exterior walls. They chose themes that would inspire people toward a better, healthier life. Four murals were completed in Harper – 3 by high school students and later a 4th one on the exterior wall of a building at Tubman University by university students.
